Lorde, Metallica, Katy Perry, Robin Thicke to Perform at 2014 GRAMMYs

January 7, 2014. Another January day, another round of GRAMMY performer announcements. Lorde, Katy Perry and Robin Thicke with Chicago will take the stage later this month. (Thicke, if you remember, performed at the GRAMMY nominations concert last month with Earth, Wind & Fire (read the OFC interview), so he’s just continuing on that same train, it seems.)

But the most surprising part of the announcement? That Metallica, eight-time GRAMMY winners mind you, will perform with the GRAMMY Cultural Ambassador to China, Lang Lang.

All four are nominated this year: Lorde with four nods (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Royals” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Pure Heroine); Thicke with three noms (Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Blurred Lines,” Best Pop Vocal Album for Blurred Lines); Perry with two (Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Roar”); and Metallica with one (for their Metallica Through the Never soundtrack(Music up for Best Recording Package).  Read more on radio.com

The All-American Rejects

January 6, 2014. The roles of two iconic rockers have been cast for the upcoming Gregg Allman biopic, which has the working title of Midnight Rider, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tyson Ritter, frontman of pop-punk band the All-American Rejects will play the role of Gregg, while Wyatt Russell, son of actor Kurt Russell, will play his late brother and Allman Brothers Band bandmate Duane Allman. The film is based on Gregg Allman’s memoir, My Cross To Bear, which he co-wrote with music journalist Alan Light. It will be directed by Randall Miller, who helmed the recent film about the New York City punk rock club CBGBs.

Both Ritter and Russell will sing and play instruments throughout the film, which will include original Allman Brothers tracks, as well as re-recorded versions of songs by the actor/musicians. Production on the film is slated to start in February.  Read more on radio.com

January 3, 2014. Clay Aiken might have come in second on American Idol, and The Apprentice for that matter, but it seems he’s hoping he’ll come out on top on Election Day 2014.

According to the Washington Blade, the singer is “actively considering” a bid for North Carolina’s 2nd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The paper, which calls itself “America’s leading gay news source,” reports that two Democratic sources — who spoke on condition of anonymity — say the Raleigh native has spoken with political consultants. They also say that Aiken already started “running phone calls to gauge support, talked to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and has met with figures in Raleigh, N.C.,” including a political strategist who worked with Al Gore during his bid for president, about potentially running for the Congressional seat this fall.

January 2, 2014. When Kellie Pickler won Dancing with the Stars last year, fans found out that the North Carolina singer was not only a top-notch vocalist but a skilled dancer as well. So to hear that she’s now interested in possibly taking her talent to Broadway actually makes sense.

Pickler told Country Weekly that ever since her appearance on Dancing with the Stars, she’s “been wanting to do Broadway so bad,” which would allow her to “throw together two of my passions — dance and music.” And not just any Broadway production, she has a clear idea in mind for what she thinks would make for an epic production: the life and music of the late Tammy Wynette.

“I want them to do like a Tammy Wynette Broadway musical! I know Dolly Parton has her Broadway shows and I think if anybody lived a country song, it’s Tammy.”
