October 10, 2011. Weezer former bassist Mikey Welsh was found dead in a Chicago hotel room yesterday. Mikey was 40 years old. The cause of death is unknown and awaiting an autopsy report. According to the Associated Press, Welsh had been staying at the Raffaello Hotel and was expected to check out on Saturday. Mikey had planned to attend Weezer's show at RiotFest. He was found lifeless by hotel staff on Sunday and could not be revived.
Mikey had left Weezer in 2001 due to emotional breakdown but went onto to explore his passion through his artwork which can be viewed on his official site. Mikey Welsh will be missed by family, fans and the music community. His music and artwork will not be forgotten.
